Fallout 4 is the first game I’ve played from the series, and the game has been out a while. When I bought the game, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it. Surprisingly, I love the game.
Fallout 4 is set in a post-nuclear war world. The game starts off just before the war happened, where you’re given a glimpse of what the world looked like before you’re thrown into a vault and frozen for several years. Once you’ve escaped the fault, you set out on a journey to find your lost son, Shaun.
You don’t have to follow the storyline if you don’t want to, there are plenty of side quests for you to do. You don’t even have to do quests, you can run about and do whatever, or you can make Sanctuary Hills look nice again.
There’s so much to explore, and there’s so much to do. I’ve spent hours on this game and I’m still ages away from completing the storyline, and once I’ve done that there’s still so much I can do on the game. This game is never-ending fun.
I’m not too fond of the crafting system, but it’s not awful. I just don’t like the limitations and how run down everything looks. But this is all easily fixed with mods. This is only a small part of the game anyway, so it’s not enough to put me off.
I also scrapped my power armour station thing when I first started building in Sanctuary Hills, I didn’t know what is was so I got rid of it. Oops.
I also like that I have to be careful with my ammo, because I’m used to games where ammo is easily found so I never have the issue of running out. This isn’t the case with F4, since I actually have to be careful. I’ve run out of ammo so many times that I’ve really struggled to complete missions, and admittedly I’ve made my boyfriend help me.
I’m not too fond of having companions. They either scare me, get in my way or lead the enemies to me. I’ve tried sending Codsworth off to fight enemies for me but he only ends up running back to me while the enemies are following him. Or I’ve been running out in the open and I’ve forgotten Codsworth is following me, so I turn around after hearing a weird noise. I see Codsworth, I shoot him while screaming.
I also abandoned Dogmeat in some weird place because I told him to stay after he got in my way. Oops. I did get him back though, luckily.
The customisation is very limited at the beginning of the game, but you can have cool hair colours if you visit the hairdresser in Diamond City. My character currently has blue hair, because why not.
One thing I do dislike, is that the music doesn’t change when enemies appear. This is something that happens in Skyrim and I find it useful because it alerts me that enemies have spotted me without my having to look at the mini map. The only way to find enemies is either by them saying something or seeing the red dot appear on the map. So I don’t always know if a ghoul is following me until I turn around after hearing weird sounds, and I end up screaming and wasting ammo.
Overall, I really love this game and it’s definitely one of my favourites.
