Post Anime Depression. Something most anime fans have probably encountered. It’s one of the worst feelings in the world. I hate it.
I first encountered PAD (Post Anime Depression) when I watched Death Note. Despite hating how it ended, I felt extremely lost and I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t want to re-watch it because I wasn’t ready to re-live that pain yet. At the time I didn’t really know of any other anime, just the anime every one else knew.
I cured it quickly by watching Fruits Basket, but I have had worse cases of PAD. When I finished FMAB I refused to accept there were no episodes left. I left the tab open and refused to accept that there isn’t anymore. One of my friends ended up buying my the box set for my birthday (which luckily wasn’t too long after) to help me get over it. It worked, sort of.
Symptoms of PAD include:
– Feeling lost
– Not wanting to do anything
It commonly occurs after watching a really good anime, but it sometimes occurs when an anime is awful. It even happens after re-watching an anime.
So how do you deal with it?
You can find an anime similar, ask online or ask a friend. Start a random series you’ve been wanting to watch, or you can re-watch the anime you finished. The only way to really cure it is by either waiting for the feeling to disappear (which takes a while on its own, trust me) or by watching/doing something else.
Or you can avoid PAD altogether by not finishing the series. It works and never fails. It’s the main reason why I rarely finish anything. That, or I leave it for months and take my time watching the last few episodes.
