Occasionally an anime series will receive an OVA. I don’t normally watch them, but if I really like the series I’ll watch it, or if it’s already been released when I start the series. So here’s my top 5 list of anime OVA.
An OVA is an episode/series that hasn’t been aired on TV or shown in cinemas. It’s released straight to DVD. Sometimes included in a box set of an anime series aired on TV.
1 Black Butler
I have only seen one OVA episode, where the anime did its own version of Alice in Wonderland. I’ve also heard that Book of Murder is very good (but I still haven’t seen it yet).
2 Free! Eternal Summer
The OVA episode for Free! Was hilarious and I loved it a lot. It’s definitely one of my favourite OVA episodes. The episode featured both swim teams having a water fight, which was very entertaining to watch. I ended up re-watching the episode a few times due to it being very enjoyable.
The OVA for Steins;Gate was hilarious. This OVA takes place a few months after the end of the series, and it takes place in America as Faris has dragged them all there. It definitely brightens the series up, as towards the end Steins;Gate is pretty dark. It was so funny and I really recommend that you watch it if you haven’t already.
Yato turns into Hiyori for the episode, and it was so funny. It definitely helped with the Post-Anime Depression I was suffering with after finishing the series. For some reason, I don’t know that many people who have seen it, which is a shame because it was a really good episode. This episode definitely fits in with the rest of the series, and is definitely worth watching.
5 Hyrbid Child
This is a 4 episode OVA series. It’s yaoi/shounen-ai so if you’re not a fan of that then I don’t think you’ll like it. I’m fairly certain it was made by the same people that created Sekaiichi Hatsukoi and Junjou Romantica, so if you’re a fan of those series then you’ll definitely like this. It’s not as funny as SH/JR, but it’s better. It’s dramatic and the story is very unique and interesting.
Hybrid Child is about android-like dolls created for people who are lonely. They grow up if loved enough, and have feelings and emotions like a human. They aren’t fully machines or fully human.
